5 Simple Steps to Cure Your Child's Cold

5 Simple Steps to Cure Your Child's Cold
It is essential to take right precautions to help children recover from illnesses like cold faster. Here are 5 simple steps to cure your child’s cold.
Cold is one of the commonest diseases and its prevalence is especially rampant in kids below the age of 10 this is why parents keep on worrying about their kids perpetually stuck with a runny nose. Kids being active creatures feel specially inconvenienced when they are down with cold. Clammy foreheads, congested chests and scratchy throats all make life hellish for kids and their parents. However, treating cold is not that tough and you can follow these simple steps to cure the problem.

1. Restrict Outdoor Activity

When your kid has a cold then there are high chances that he or she is also suffering from a weakened immune system. It is imperative that kids stay in a protected environment at such times as their bodies will be more susceptible to germs, infections and viruses. Do not send your kid outdoors when he or she has caught a cold. Common cold is anyway contagious and others can also get exposed to the germs that your kid might be carrying. Staying indoors will help your kid fight the cold better and faster.

2. Plenty of Vitamin C

It has been scientifically proven that increased Vitamin C intake helps in improving the immune function of the body and enhances the protective action against cold. Sources of food containing high amount of Vitamin C are grapefruit, oranges, lemons and other fruits belonging to the citrus family. When it comes to giving your kid vitamin C natural sources are way better than tablets and capsule supplements. Feeding your kid about half an orange daily should definitely help prevent common cold in the long run. However, in case the cold attack is quite severe you can consider giving Vitamin C capsule supplements as prescribed your paediatrician.

3. Keeping Warm

There are three areas that should definitely be protected against the cold when your kid is down with the flu and they are the throat, the ears and the feet. From the medical perspective these are the three most vulnerable areas of the body. So keep the feet clad in socks and the ears tucked in a nice comfy cap. Keeping your kid warm and snugly when he or she is struck with cold is very important as any exposure to chilly weather will aggravate the problem. Also make sure that your kid stays away from cold water and food.

4. Administering Medication

When it comes to curing common cold there are plenty of options available in the range of over the counter drugs. However, it is best not to play the doctor yourself and resort to taking medical help when it comes to giving your kid medication. You must consult a paediatrician and administer medication only as per his or her advice. Make sure that you do not miss any dosage of medication as prescribed by doctor to help your child recover faster.

5. Stop Dehydration

It is common for kids to feel dehydrated when they are sick. A runny nose and wet cough are the common symptoms of a cold and water loss occurs in copious quantities leading to dehydration. As a good and responsible parent keep a ready supply of lukewarm water, mild watered down juice, warm chicken soup etc ready for keeping the body hydrated. Water will keep the cells healthy and happy and keep the body active enough to fight the infection.
Now that you know these easy and effective steps for curing common cold you will be able to keep your kid healthy and happy.
